Get Your POP Mail In Windows 8

The Windows 8 Mail app has a surprising shortcoming, it won't work with email accounts that use the POP3 mail protocol. Instead, Windows 8 Mail only works with Web-based mail accounts such as Gmail and Outlook and accounts that use IMAP. However, there's a workaround that solves the problem. You can tell either a Gmail or an Outlook account to get POP3-based mail from a POP3 account, and then tell Windows 8 Mail to get mail from that account. Simply follow these steps:

Configure Outlook to get POP3 mail

 1. Log in to your Outlook account
 2. Click on the 'Settings' icon then select 'More Mail Settings'
 3. Under 'Managing Your Account', click on 'Your Mail Accounts'
 4. Select 'Add a send-and-receive account'
 5. Click on 'Advanced Options'
 6. Enter the information you use to access your POP3 account
 7. Click on the link in the verification email that you receive

Configure Gmail to get POP3 mail

 1. Click on the gear icon on the upper-right corner of the screen
 2. Select 'Settings->Accounts and Import->Add a POP3 Mail Account
    You Own'
 3. Enter your email address
 4. Enter the information you use to access your POP3 account
 5. Click on 'Add Account' and select to also send messages from this
    account
 6. Enter your outgoing email settings
 7. Click on the link in the verification email that you receive

Configure Windows Mail to get mail from Outlook or Gmail

 1. Open the Windows Mail app
 2. Press 'Win+C' to display the Charms bar
 3. Select 'Settings->Accounts->Add an Account'
 4. Select either Outlook or Gmail, then enter your email and password
